Anima's Philosophy

ANIMA’s vision consists in providing advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone.

ANIMA’s objective is to become a substantial and positive choice for mental health and to offer high quality services to those in need. Our aim is the creation of a fully integrated network of services in order to cover population needs in levels such as the mental health services system, socio-economic, educational and scientific documentation.

In order to achieve our objectives:

  • We offer quality services in mental health and in social support that respond to real needs.
  • We focus on developing an effective care service in mental health.
  • We fully inform people on the topics that concern his/her personal and social life.
  • We are willing to collaborate with other organizations, networks and agencies with similar objectives and actions for common good.
  • We are constantly evaluated and improved in the light of our efficiency and effectiveness.

Partner Excellence 2010

Award to ANIMA NP-NGO from the NATIONAL NETWORK FOR WORKPLACE HEALTH PROMOTION

On Thursday, January 27, 2011 ANIMA was awarded by the National Network for Workplace Health Promotion (NNWHP) for its important commitment in Health Management and particularly in Mental Health Management in the Workplace, in the context of the European campaign "Work in Harmony with Life."
This event constitutes for us a reward of our endless efforts for continuously practicing our principles, considering that mental health is not limited to “ the divan”. Thus, we can create "therapeutic" and supportive work environments, if we are truly willing.
This honour, fills us with pride and a deep feeling of responsibility to continue our efforts, so that we could prove we are worthy of this award, in the future.

Support and Therapy

In ANIMA we believe that any human being, regardless of professional, economic or social status, educational level or other characteristic will require in at least one difficult time of his/her life, professional support. Furthermore, we believe that this time does not characterize him/her as a lifelong mental patient, neurotic or otherwise, but gives him/her the opportunity to work through problems or issues in a manner most effective for him/her in the future.

But where could one turn to? How could they be sure or confident that the referred place or professional will solve their "problem" or provide them with the relief they are seeking? It is a fact that most people are not informed regarding the availability of Greek mental health services and what each one has to offer. Many of us cannot even distinguish the meaning and importance of mental disorders.

We remain at your disposal to answer any question you may have.

  • We do not accept for any reason cases of involuntary confinement or involuntary hospitalisation, since we believe that this practice constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights.
  • We do not force for any reason medication treatment or other forms of suppressive therapy or containment, as we believe that these constitute forms of torture and assault on a person’s life.
  • We aim to prevent the confinement of other people, and to finally put a stop to the reproduction of the traditional model of institutional psychiatry.

The more informed people are the more effective they will be dealing with difficult situations in life.

Volunteerism

The voluntary action is intended to provide an opportunity for people to express their deepest altruistic feelings, and enable them to gain a more active and dynamic role in reinforcing the work of mental health and promote mental health in the community.

All people can become volunteers and volunteer is anyone who provides unpaid work and who is sensitized to mental health issues.

For Anima volunteers are not only benevolent but partners who are going to be trained by professional staff, take specific roles, conduct educational programs and blends in the operation of the services and the programs of the unit.

In Anima’s voluntary program you can participate in internal and external activities of our service users, to get to know them and to help at their social reintegration.
Indoor activities: cooking, art, occupational therapy, learning personal hygiene and cleaning, gardening, etc.
External activities: coffee, cinema, theatre, sporting activities, shopping, seminars, events and conferences etc.
